Af en toe gedeprimeerd zijn is toch iets heel menselijks? Als je dat nooit hebt, als je dat niet kunt, dat is toch… vreselijk? Gevoelsschommelingen horen erbij, een sterk gevoelsleven hoort bij een gezond mens. Als je dat niet hebt, ga je in de richting van autisme. Net zo treurig is het wanneer je nooit een piek ervaart. Ik vergelijk zo’n licht hypomane fase altijd met verliefdheid. Als je verliefd bent, ben je ook enigszins hypomaan. Dat wil iedereen toch graag een keer meemaken in het leven?

Ik zag ooit op tv een interview met een zeventigjarige die zei dat hij nooit verliefd was geweest. Hij vertelde het met trots opgeheven borst! Dat is toch een ongelukkig mens? Hij beweerde dat hij zich nooit ongelukkig had gevoeld, maar zo iemand weet niet eens wat geluk is.
